A New Home for Redeemer

When Fr. Gary was discerning his call to plant a church in Asheville, he sensed God leading him to Haywood Rd. God gave him a vision for a church at the heart of the West Asheville community, right in the middle of the restaurants, music venues and shops—a redeeming presence in our city, a source of beauty, truth and goodness. Grace Baptist has rented spaced to us for the last 8 years. They've been very hospitable to us and we're grateful to have partnered with them for so long. But we've always known Grace could not be a permanent home for Redeemer, and in the last year we'd been open other options, moving slowly and prayerfully. A few months ago, we thought we might have found a new building: a vacant church down the road. That didn't work out, but God was preparing something else for us.

In December 2022, our vestry approved a move onto the campus of Calvary Baptist church. This move affords us primary use of the space which means no more set up/breakdown, no more working around another church's schedule, expanded classroom spaces, and the opportunity to have a morning service. The Candler Center, which has previously housed Missio Dei church, will be our new worship space. This large, nave-shaped room is a bit of a blank slate and we are excited by the prospect of spending our upcoming Lenten season shaping it into our sanctuary. There's work to be done: windows to uncover, a stage to deconstruct, an altar rail to build—and we will need your hands to help us get this done. Our first service in our new home will be Palm Sunday, April 2, 2023. Thanks be to God!
